Dear Patrons,
Vaikaasi month is the second month of the Tamil calendar. The important
events in the month are Vaikaasi Vishakam and Mahaperiyava
Jayanthi.
Vaikaasi Vishakam - June 4th 2020
Vaikasi vishakam falls on the day the nakshatram Vishakam coincides with
full moon / Pournami and is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Muruga.
The star “Vishaka” is considered to be very auspicious and being a
binary star represents both the intellectual as well as spiritual
qualities with complete vitality.
Lord Muruga is the God of valour, wealth, and wisdom and the embodiment
of love and compassion. Saint Arunagirinathar has extolled the
manifestation of Lord Muruga on Vishaka star in many of the Thiruppugazh
verses, here are a few excerpts:
கானமயில் காந்தா விசாகா சரவணவேளே
kAnamayil kAntha vishAka saravaNavELE
(The one who manifests as a luminous light on Vishaka star)
விசாக க்ருபாலு வித்ரும காரா ஷடானன
vishAka krupAlu vidhruma kArA shadAnana
(The one who shines resplendently on the birth star Vishaka)
இன்சொல் விசாகா க்ருபாகர
Insol Vishaka Krupakara
(The Lord born in Visakha Nakshatra who is ever merciful with sweet
words and has infinte compassion for the devotees)
வீறு கொண்ட விசாகா நமோநம அருள்தாராய்
veeRu konda visAkA namO nama aruLthArAy
(We bow before the ever victorious Lord of the Vishaka star to grant
His grace)
Lord Muruga emanated for the specific purpose of eradicating / slaying
the negative forces and saving the world from demons. He is the
'Devasenaapati'- the victorious chief commander of the great divine
army, a dynamic warrior against negativity and the fearless defender of
righteousness.
On the day of Vaikasi vishakham, as Arunagirinathar says, may we all bow
to Lord Subramanya and pray that the 'demon' called Covid-19` be slayed,
the world emerge victorious from the negative forces of the pandemic and
may He with his compassionate grace bestow everyone with good health,
wisdom, positivity and prosperity .
"Vetrivel Murugannuku haraharo hara"
MahaPeriyava Jayanthi - June 5th 2020
Pujyasri Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi was installed as the 68th
Peetatipathi of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam when he was just 13 years old.
His life spanned most of 20th century: verily a divine incarnation and
one of the greatest guiding lights, many regard him the greatest
spiritual luminary of our times.
What is the greatest blessing we can seek on His jayanthi? Following
Mahaperiaval's own commentary on Kanakadara Stotram, may we all do our
namaskarams to the Acharya, say ‘Tasmai Sri Guruve Namaha’ and seek His
blessings that we continue to be able to do so for the rest of our
lives.

The whole aim of this segment in Vaanavil event ,year after year is to
motivate our SIS kids to familiarise with as many Shlokas as possible at
a young age, when they have a sponge like mind which is ready to absorb
everything and it stays in their memories forever.
So our request to parents, grand parents and carers is to encourage the
kids to take this opportunity to learn a new Shloka from the list every
year and recite them at our Vaanavil events.
