The Tamil month of Aani is the last month in the Uttarayana half of the year in the Hindu calendar. The most important temple festival during Aani is the the Thirumanjanam, or holy bath, to Lord Nataraja and it falls on Uthira Nakshatram in Aani which is on Sunday June 28th 2020.
It is popularly believed that it was on Aani Uthiram day that Lord Shiva appeared before Sage Manikkavacakar under a Kurundai Tree and offered upadesam. Abhishekam of the Shiva lingam performed on the day is considered highly auspicious.
